KTM X-BOW 2009
"Orange" weekend in eastern Germany
AGAIN THE X-BOW BATTLE PRESENTED GREAT SPORT!

Half time in the KTM X-BOW Battle! For the third of the altogether six racing weekends of the year 2010 most of the main characters in the KTM X-BOW Battle met on the imposing „Eurospeedway Lausitz” site. The result was, just like the performances on the Salzburgring and in Most, the same: thrilling races, good battles in all classes and the weather god, too, gave more than his blessing to the ‘topless drivers’. The fact that some of the participants could not make their way to the Magdeburger Börde may have had to do with the long travel distances for some of the teams, which did not derogate the suspense, however.

1st Race KTM X-BOW Battle, Eurospeedway Lausitz, 18th June 2010:
Jim Gebhart, Jim Gebhart, again and again Jim Gebhart. In Class 3, the „Big Bangers“, the man from Cham cannot be beaten. But if the interest in the “Battle“ carries on like this it won’t be too long before a motivated competitor is found. Jiri Heinik is already someone who tries to overtake Gebhardt in the great class, but the Czech had problems with his car during the first race and could not keep up, like he last managed in Most. The winner of Class 2, Klaus Angerhofer - who managed to keep the upper hand against Ernst Kirchmayr – came accordingly close. Kirchmayr in turn battled a little bit with the technology and just about managed to hold the German Jürgen Pipp at bay. Already behind this the winner of Class 1, again it was the „master of the house“ „Michel Vaillant“, who could not be beaten. He positioned himself in front of some Class 2 drivers, such as guest starters Reiner Kuhn, Siegfried Käser or Uwe Schmidt. Pavel Heinik managed tenth place in a borrowed Class 1 X-BOW, in eleventh place was KTM press officer Manfred Wolf, who had his debut in the “Battle”, Wolfgang Fritsch came twelfth and Peter Goegler, despite a lost intercooler hose, managed position 13.

2nd Race KTM X-BOW Battle, Eurospeedway Lausitz, 19th June 2010:
Again Jim Gebhart could not be broken – but Jiri Heinik was much closer than he was during the first leg, just as Klaus Angerhofer, whose battle with the Czech over long stretches of the race was well worth seeing and who managed to extend his lead in Class 2 even further this weekend. Ernst Kirchmayer managed fourth place, just like in the first race, and also Jürgen Pipp came fifth and “Michel Vaillant” sixth again. The latter managed to win Class 1 with this, but was put under pressure by Pavel Heinik. The Czech quickly made friends with the track and „Vaillant“ only managed to keep the youngster narrowly and skilfully at bay. For a long time this duel was actually a fight among four, out of which Reiner Kuhn and Uwe Schmidt only had to retire after a wild spin from Schmidt, to finish their races in position eight and nine. Siegfried Käser and Manfred Wolf also presented a great duel, which was decided in favour of the German by barely a second. Peter Goegler rounded off the field in twelfth place, while Wolfgang Fritsch had to leave just before the second race due professional commitments.

Voices after the Race:
Jim Gebhart: „Beautiful weather, beautiful track, beautiful race. But it wasn’t as easy as the result made it look. By now the boys have come quite close. I wonder what it’s going to be like in Hockenheim.“

Pavel Heinik: „I came without a car, because an interested party in the Czech Republic wanted to look at my X-BOW exactly on this weekend. So I spontaneously borrowed one, I cannot just watch! I didn’t know the track and I needed some time to get going. The Lausitzring really is enormously challenging. But the race went pretty well and I had great fun battling with Georg and the others. The customer has bought my car, in this sense it was the perfect weekend for me! As from Hockenheim I will take part with a new car. I’m already looking forward to it!“

Georg Silbermayr: „We knew that this weekend would be the weakest, as far as participants were concerned. The distance is too far to travel for some of the teams. On the other hand I honestly have to say that the non-starters really missed something. Not only were the races super exciting, above all the Lausitzring is a beautiful and challenging track, on of the most interesting tracks I’ve ever driven on. I’m particularly happy that we managed to get our friends from the Porsche camp to the start. And once they’ve started they’ll be back! In Hockenheim I expect a full house with 25 to 30 starters!“
